Unions that endorsed Biden are now criticizing him for canceling Keystone pipeline that will 'kill thousands of good-paying union jobs!'

Unions that endorsed Joe Biden for president are experiencing some buyer's remorse only days after his inauguration. In one of his first actions in the White House, President Biden canceled the Keystone XL pipeline. Now, the unions that supported Biden are criticizing the newly-elected president for the political move that they say will "kill thousands of good-paying union jobs!"

TC Energy Corporation, the Canadian company behind the Keystone XL pipeline project, said they would cut more than 11,000 jobs.

Jason Kenney, Premier of Alberta, appeared on Fox News' "The Story," where he said that Biden's move "kills thousands of union labor jobs on both sides of the U.S.-Canada border and counterintuitively makes the United States more dependent on 'dictatorships' for its energy needs."

Andy Black, president and CEO of the Association of Oil Pipe Lines, said, "Killing 10,000 jobs and taking $2.2 billion in payroll out of workers' pockets is not what Americans need or want right now."

\Biden was also slammed for canceling the Keystone XL pipeline by the same unions who endorsed him in the 2020 election.

"Pipeline construction has been a lifeline for many #LIUNA members across the country," the Laborers' International Union of North America said. "The anticipated decision to cancel the Keystone Pipeline will kill thousands of good-paying UNION jobs!"

In September, LIUNA "proudly" endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, claiming the Democrats "stand out as the blue-collar candidates."

Duh--he said all along that is what he was going to do. So, why are they surprised?

Not the whole story. TC said it would layoff about 1,000. Mainly, perhaps all, Canadian workers.

The 11,000 figure was an estimate based on the future, but over 10,000 of those jobs would have been temporary. They were projecting 40-50 full time jobs after the the pipeline was completed.

The Wall Street Journal editorial board also responded to Biden’s move, concluding that not only is it destructive to the U.S. economy but possibly illegal:

Since 2000 the U.S. has led the world in energy-related emissions reductions as natural gas from shale hydraulic fracturing has replaced coal in power production. China’s Paris commitment doesn’t require it to cut emissions for another decade. Russia’s are set to rise for years. Last November Russian oil giant Rosneft launched a massive exploration project in the Arctic. “Mineral resources will remain a competitive advantage of Russia’s economy, and will determine the place and role of the country in the world,” Russia’s strategic mineral plan says.

Killing Keystone won’t keep fossil fuels in the ground. It will merely strand billions of dollars in Canadian investment and kill thousands of U.S. jobs while enriching adversaries and alienating an ally. Alberta Premier Jason Kenney has promised to “use all legal avenues available” to protect its Keystone investment if Mr. Biden killed the pipeline.

[TC Energy] can avail itself of Nafta’s investor-dispute settlement provision until June 2022, which would allow it to recoup its investment. The company also has a strong legal case that the U.S. Constitution gives Congress, not the President, power over foreign trade and that Mr. Biden’s reversal violates due process.

Expert: Biden Actions Against American Oil, Gas Energy Production Could Kill as Many as 1 Million Jobs

Frank Macchiarola, senior vice president of Policy, Economics and Regulatory Affairs at the American Petroleum Institute (API), said in an interview on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Saturday with host Matt Boyle that if President Joe Biden puts a permanent ban on oil and gas development on federal waters and land, it could cost 1 million American jobs.

Boyle asked Macchiarola about the significance of Biden revoking the permit for the Keystone XL Pipeline and putting a 60-day pause on federal land leasing in his first days in office.

“I think the first four days of the Biden Administration have given a clear picture of what the next four years could look like,” he said. “President Biden comes into office with a real economic headwind and a difficult labor market but at the same time he inherited an energy [landscape] that’s stronger because of America’s shale revolution.”

“We’ve produced lower household energy costs as a result of U.S. energy and less reliance on foreign energy sources,” Macchiarola added.

“The president has a choice to make: He can maintain U.S. leadership and maintain and support our economic recovery with American energy or he can pursue policies that destroy jobs and at the same time increase energy imports,” he further asserted.

“The first few days should concern all Americans because the administration is clearly taking actions that are going to harm the economy and cost Americans jobs,” Macchiarola said.

As Breitbart News reported, shutting down the Keystone XL pipeline will cost 11,000 jobs directly and as many as 60,000 indirect jobs.

The federal ban presents an even more staggering number, Macchiarola asserted.

“The full scale ban of development on federal lands you can bet the impact could be up to a million jobs in the United States,” he said.

The Keystone decision also affects our relationship with Canada and the U.S. economy.

“Two of the major components of the inauguration address and of the priorities of the new administration, No. 1 is rebuilding alliances and No. 2 strengthening our economy,” Macchiarola said. “With this decision that heads in the opposite direction on both of those priorities.”

It could also cost the U.S. $2 billion in wages, he said.

Yes, they would have been construction jobs. Those are the kinds of high-paying jobs in construction people look for... who are in construction.

Breitbart!
In August 2020, a Breitbart article reported on a press release by Michigan's Secretary of State about more than 800 dead people voting in Michigan. The Breitbart article was framed to suggest that the ballots were not legitimately cast and thus evidence of extensive voter fraud. However, the voters in question died after submitting the ballots, and the ballots were rejected by Michigan authorities who knew the voters had died before the election date.
