China and Tiananmen Square anniversary

Postby LibraryLady » Wed Jun 04, 2014 8:29 pm

I remember the morning the event happened 25 years ago.
I was out of town for a sales meeting--I remember getting dressed and watching things on TV and wishing I could stay in the room and watch it all play out.

We visited Beijing in 2004....and of course walked the square.
Tour guides will not talk about it. A year or so later my sister visited Beijing and her guide said they could not speak about it. Later when they were certain to be alone, the guide told them that the government has spies all around the square and if a guide is heard discussing the event, the guide is punished and no longer allowed to guide tourists.

News says google has been disabled in China for a couple of weeks prior to the anniversary.

I remember it so well because I was in the hospital up in McKinney, having just given birth to our first child. It was the son I call Moose on line, born on June 2nd, the same birthday as a few of our DD friends.

If you've ever been in the hospital or had a baby, you know what's on the news at that time makes an impression.I even wrote the word "Tiananmen" in the baby book for the "News of the Times"entry.
Closing Time. Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.
