Yesterday was a red letter day for us

We went to town and made five stops yesterday...

Stop 1: Bank A, made our final mortgage payment and collected our escrow check
Stop 2: Bank B, deposited our escrow check
Stop 3: City Hall Annex, paid our property taxes
Stop 4: ISD Building, paid our property taxes
Stop 5: County tax office, paid our property taxes

Our mortgage started in March, 1997 with a 30 year note. We refinanced for 20 years and lowered the interest rate. We refinanced again for 10 years and lowered the interest rate again. We paid off the mortgage in 25.5 years. Having no mortgage feels really good.

To top it all off, today is our anniversary.

ETA: While paying extra on this mortgage every month to pay if off early, we also helped our kid get through four years of college and two years of graduate school with ZERO debt. She now earns twice what I earn and has a great husband, a beautiful home, and a perfect baby girl.

Congratulations! I remember how I felt when we paid off our house in 2013, after paying for two college educations and two weddings. What a great day!

But having to make all those stops to pay taxes is a beat down. Fortunately, in Tarrant County we have an appraisal board that covers school, county, city, junior college and hospital taxes, and we can pay them off with one payment online (or in person).

Our appraisal district covers the appraisals for all of the taxing authorities, but each taxing authority has to be paid individually.
