Donald Trump's federal trial for the classified documents seized at Mar-a-Lago will be held in Fort Pierce.
U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, whom Trump appointed in 2020, scheduled the trial to begin Aug. 14 in her courtroom at the Alto Lee Adams Sr. United States Courthouse at U.S. 1 and Orange Avenue.
How long will the trial take?
While it is unknown how many days the trial will take, Cannon has blocked off two weeks. It could be shorter or longer, and it could even be continued to a later date.
What is Donald Trump going to trial for?
Trump, who is seeking the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, was indicted earlier this month on 37 criminal counts and pleaded not guilty to charges related to taking hundreds of classified records when he left the White House in January 2021.
Why was Judge Aileen Cannon appointed to the case?
Cannon is one of five eligible judges at the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. She was assigned to preside over the case through the court's computerized system.
Why is the trial taking place in Fort Pierce?
Cannon, who lives in Vero Beach, assigned the trial to take place in her Fort Pierce courtroom instead of Miami, where he was indicted earlier this month.
