Texas auto safety inspection

The safety inspection is going away in 2025.

The state is still going to charge you $7.50

So then you can drive with no brakes and tires with the cord showing through on all corners of the car.

These counties will have to have emission testing.

The 17 Texas counties that require emissions inspections will still mandate annual tests regardless of the bill becoming law. These are Brazoria, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, El Paso, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Johnson, Kaufman, Montgomery, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis and Williamson counties.

The state vehicle inspection is a joke. It should have been abolished years ago.

In order to get my fifth wheel registered every year, I have to hitch that thing up and take it to an inspection station that has the space to accommodate a large RV. That is always at least a half day job for me.

There is a car in my neighborhood with a TX windshield sticker that expired over 2 years ago that will not pass the safety inspection because of front end damage. Another car has Virginia temporary paper plates that next week will be 4 years past due. Both cars are daily drivers.

They’ve never had safety inspections in California..instead we have mandatory smog tests.

Vehicle inspections were eliminated through legislative oversight here in Oklahoma more than twenty years ago. Nobody could point to any practical difference it made and there is no support I have heard of to reinstate them.

I think it's a fine idea. There are currently only 16 states that require safety inspections, and only 11 of those require annual inspections.

I'd be fine with it if it allowed for citations when an unsafe vehicle was stopped by police.

I believe those laws are already on the books.

Here is something we all need to keep in mind: To do a thorough vehicle safety inspection by the book would take hours and cost hundreds of dollars. Our current state is that the inspections cost 7 bucks, and the guys doing the inspections spend about two minutes on them. In general, they eyeball the tires and wipers, and they check the tail and brake lights to see if they work. That's it. It's a huge joke.
