I completely agree, but you still could have told them that male sports fans weren't going to buy issues with fat trannies on the cover. They used the same approach that led to the Bud Light disaster: instead of asking, "Who are our customers?", they made a decision about who they wanted their customers to be. The actual customers recoiled in horror and bailed, while the desired demographic was never going to buy those products.

The French model Ines Rau, 26, will appear as the November centerfold in the first issue since the death of Hugh Hefner, Mr. Hefner’s father and the magazine’s founder.

Selecting Ms. Rau “very much speaks to the brand’s philosophy,” said Mr. Hefner, 26, Playboy’s chief creative officer. “It’s the right thing to do. We’re at a moment where gender roles are evolving.”

Well, Playboy’s circulation started declining steadily in 1975.
The circulation went from 5.6 million in 1975 to 210,000 in 2018.

I guess if they had a transgender person as a centerfold it was a last-ditch effort. But from the circulation history it’s appears that was not the cause of the decline. Nor was online porn or Covid.

Point is, to say that SI or Playboy went out because they were “woke” is nonsense.

Bull shit. Look at the link you posted. You’re only considering percentage decline. I think going from 3 million to 1.6 million is a bigger deal than going from 700k to 210k.
Magazines across the board have been in decline for years. Trying to tie that in with begin “woke” is ridiculous.
