So is BigTex. I think I am the only Air Force. 5 years mostly before Viet Nam. I got out in 68 and went to work for AAFES.

You would be incorrect. Retired USAF pilot here.

With AAFES I spent 4 years in Japan during Viet Nam. We produced the PACEX Mail Order Catalog. Military in Viet Nam or anywhere in the Far East could order electronics, cameras and gift type items and have them shipped back to the states. Then 4 years in the Bay Area contracting for services for installations on the West Coast. Then, I was in Munich, Germany for 5 years. I headed up procurement for 45 AAFES garages in Europe.
I spent of the rest of my time at the HQ in Dallas as an HBA buyer and then as a contracting officer for services, like laundry/dry cleaners, barber/beauty shops, etc. on the west coast.

I think I'm cooler. I spent a year at a radar site north of Fairbanks called Murphy's Dome.

They like to send the kookburgers to remote areas.
Despite that, some manage to find their way back anyhow.

10 miles from Fairbanks is not exactly "remote".

There was a war in SE Asis that you never heard about. It was an air war on Laos. It was a bombing war by American ex-military pilots flying from an American base in NE Thailand called Nakhon Phanom. They didn't wear uniforms or carry any identification. They belonged to "Air America" which was actually the CIA. They dropped more tonnage of bombs on Laos that was dropped on Germany in WWII. A lot of them didn't explode and an average of one person a day is still killed when they step on one or drive over it. There is a website for it, but you have to prove you were stationed there to be allowed to join. I was one on the first flights to arrive with a moble radar site. We flew from the east coast all the way to northern Thailand. 5 days and 4 nights. We lived in the mud until the first hooches were built. The Gulf of Tonkin incident which the Viet Nam war was blamed on happened after we arrived.

I left the Air Force in 67 and went to work for AAFES. I wasn't in Germany until about 8 years later. I was at the AAFES HQ in Munich for 4 years.
