GOP Sen. Rand Paul denounced President-elect Donald Trump’s plan to deploy the military to carry out mass deportations of undocumented immigrants upon his return to office, saying it would be a “huge mistake” and a misuse of military personnel.

“I’m not in favor of sending the Army in uniforms into our cities to collect people,” Paul (R-Ky.) told Newsmax host Rob Schmitt on Tuesday. “I think it’s a terrible image and that’s not what we use our military for, we never have and it’s actually been illegal for over 100 years to bring the Army into our cities.”

Paul emphasized in the interview that he believes the task of removing people from the country should fall to local police or domestic agencies, but not the military.

“I will not support an emergency [declaration] to put the Army into our cities — I think that’s a huge mistake,” he said, later adding, “I really think us as conservatives who are supportive of Trump need to caution him about sending the Army into our cities.”

Trump has vowed to begin deporting hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants from the country on Day 1 of his new administration, nominating former acting ICE Director Thomas Homan as his “border czar” for the task.

As the incoming chair of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, Paul has said he’ll seek to restore Trump’s Remain in Mexico policy, which would require asylum seekers to the U.S. to wait in Mexico for their legal request to be processed. He has an inconsistent record with supporting Trump, endorsing him for president in 2020 but not this year. In 2019, Paul voted against Trump’s proposed national emergency declaration to secure funds for his border wall.

The senator also expressed concern for how it would look like for “the housekeeper who’s been here 30 years” to get arrested by a uniformed service member.

“I don’t see the military putting her in handcuffs and marching her down the street to an encampment. I don’t really want to see that,” Paul said, proposing “an in-between solution” that would expand work permits for those who have been in the U.S. for a long time.

Some people seem to actually believe that the President is going to be able to have the army go around and herd people off the streets into buses and dump them off in Mexico.

Deportation is a legal process and every one of these twenty million or whatever aliens can delay his deportation for six months or more through appeals without a legal leg to stand on. If every one of them employed all possible legal delaying tactics the entire federal judiciary would be tied up handling nothing but immigration cases from now on.

It probably happens sometimes with things like espionage and organized crime cases but I don't know firsthand of a single time when a U. S. Attorney agreed to prosecute a person for falsely claiming to be a U. S. citizen who stuck to his guns and refused to sign a sworn statement admitting alienage. It would not matter if he was carrying his foreign birth certificate and had presented a U. S. birth certificate of a living person known to authorities. That is how much importance both national parties attached to immigration when in power up until now, when it is too late to do anything about it.

After the inauguration the streams flooding the border will slacken for a month or two until they realize that little has changed. Refugee and asylum cases will continue to be near 100% fraudulent as they have always been, and in any event applicants will refuse to leave if denied.

I would also like to know what is going to be done with the many millions of aliens from countries that simply refuse to take them back, such as China and Venezuela.

Those countries are not going to be asked..and in most cases it won’t be necessary.

People entered through Mexico. Regardless of their country of origin, most will be sent back to where they made their decision to invade the U.S.

And you will soon witness that which you say cannot happen..people rounded up and taken back over the border.

And aren’t you the one that said Trump was intentionally forfeiting the election by not agreeing to do a second debate with that lady that refused to answer even the simplest of questions?

Was that meant to be a joke?

Yes, I predicted in 2016 that the Republicans would never again be in the competition for the presidency after the 2020 election unless the Democrats spectacularly misplayed their hand in 2024, in which case that would be the last time. The Democrats obliged by putting forward what must have been the two biggest clowns ever to be on a major party ticket together. I stand by my 2016 prediction, and also by my assertion that Trump realized he had made a fool of himself in the debate and was afraid to do another one.

Who knows, Trump may be able to ignore the law and courts with massive roundups without any pretense at due process. That seems to have worked so far in El Salvador where the president has filled the prisons with MS-13 and their ilk and the citizenry are apparently solidly behind him.

I have no idea what you said in 2016, but in the last couple of months you predicted that not only would Trump lose because of his refusal to debate Harris a second time, you said it showed Trump was intentionally forfeiting the election..or resigned himself to losing.

I was wondering at the time how you were saying this with a straight face.
