Practically everything you have been told about Syria over the years were lies. Syria was not a dictatorship. Assad was not an evil dictator He was a doctor living in England before returning to Syria. He was elected to office in fair elections. I know this thanks to my friend Lillie's posts over a number of years.
Now here, finally, is a truthful explanation of what has happened to Syria.

Most Dictators start out as elected leaders.
..and that’s the end of that.

The term "Dictator" is more of a pejorative than anything else.
I think that Assad was a doctor in England whose brother was the leader of Syria and died. He came back home to replace him. And he was reelected at least once. So, he was no dictator.

To learn about a Dictator like Assad, you have to ignore what their previous life was, and learn about what went on after they became the Dictator.

Assad was not a dictator. He was elected with 90% of the vote the last election.

The easiest thing a Dictator ever does, is assure that the “vote” goes his way.
And he was a Dictator because he used Serin gas on his own people..twice.
He was a Dictator for running underground torture chambers where thousand of Syria’s citizens were held after “disappearing.”
He was a Dictator for stealing what wealth Syria had and doing things like buying dozens and dozens of luxury vehicles for himself.
He was a dictator for never, ever leaving office..until he was forced out by Muslim savages that are probably worse for the rest of the world than he was.

Running unopposed for the last 50 years and jailing your opponents, creating an autocratic cult of personality, ruling by decree in a one party state tends to get you 90%+ vote majorities, but doesn't make the country a democracy.

My guess would be that he ran unopposed because nobody thought they could beat him. He was very popular.

Did you read that somewhere or did you just make it up? He was an eye doctor in England!

By any chance, do you also believe Earth is flat, and no one has ever been to the Moon because of the firmament & the Van Allen Belt?

People with the desire to become healers spend years training to learn and practice their skills.
These are NOT the type of people with the inclination to become ruthless dictators, murderers and tortures other people.

That’s your reason?..and the best you got?
Doctors can become some of the most vicious killers..here’s one…
Frederick Shipman (14 January 1946 – 13 January 2004), known to acquaintances as Fred Shipman, was an English doctor in general practice and serial killer. He is considered to be one of the most prolific serial killers in modern history, with an estimated 284 victims over a period of roughly 30 years. On 31 January 2000, Shipman was convicted of murdering fifteen patients under his care. He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a whole life order. On 13 January 2004, one day before his 58th birthday, Shipman hanged himself in his cell.

So, you have to go all the way to England to find an example to try and prove your point?

This reminded me of a recent story in Dallas. Anesthesiologist was facing disciplinary action for an error during a surgery and in retaliation injected IV bags with a drug that would affect cardiac function. The tainted bags resulted in cardiac emergencies during several surgeries and killed another doctor who used one of the bags on herself because of dehydration.
Dallas doctor sentenced to 190 years in prison for tampering with IV bagshttps://www.cbsnews.com/texas/news/dall ... g-iv-bags/

Assad was appointed dictator by his father, who was the first dictator. Yes, he had trained to be a doctor because he was the SECOND son, and the first son was being groomed to take over. But then the first son died in a car wreck, so Bashar Assad continued the family business: dictator.

Yeah, and he was pretty good at it, winning 4 elections in a row, winning 95.1% of the vote in the 4th.
