Phone rings, I know who it is because he thinks if he's at work, everyone else should be.

Backstory:

A month ago he called to tell me a 35 year old piece of equipment is broke.

I determine over the phone it's a control issue.

I explain the control on that control was obsoleted 15 years ago.

That it is a giant question mark if repair is possible.

The iron is still good, but it might take a control retrofit to get it running.

The control is two DOS computers talking to each other.

Replacement cost for equivalent machine, about $1.2 million, 9 months delivery

Control retrofit $40K 6 weeks delivery 2 weeks install with a week of testing.

They want to try and fix existing control.

OK but no guarantee of repair or warranty of repair.

Took me two weeks to find software and fix the electronics.

Got it going last Thursday.

This morning he calls and says they(the famous they) say it's broke.

I say sorry and ask he what he has checked

He replies, nothing.

Give him a list to check.

He calls back to say it's working fine.

They never bothered to activate the ON button.
