Why?
Please be specific.
By the way, when’s the last time you set foot in a public school?
If it’s been more than 20 years I don’t want to hear your answer. Your opinion isn’t valid.

It never is.

If public education is salvageable..(I have my doubts)..it’s only chance is freeing up states to manage it entirely themselves.
The leftist indoctrination has a better chance of being eradicated without this hideous boondoggle.

The Trump administration signed an order on March 20, 2025, aimed at closing the department;[10] however, the department cannot be closed without the approval of Congress, which created it.[11][12]

Most people base the effectiveness of a business or government agency by the progress they have made in their field
The progress made by the DOE.
Results from this year’s National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) from the U.S. Department of Education show a continued, steep decline in test scores in all subjects. Math scores for eighth graders were the lowest in 50 years, and reading scores regressed back to scores last seen in 1998.

Fact 1: The Department of Education is blatantly unconstitutional.
Fact 2: In it's ~45 year history, the Department of Education has not taught a single child to read or write or add.

The states are going to manage it? You mean states like Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, even Texas. Theses states have made it a point to do their best to keep their populace uneducated. How else do you think Republicans can stay in office?

Forty six years and a trillion dollars later, and student performance has declined.
What Guberment Department created in the fifty years has achieved the goal they were created to reach ?

In 46 years a whole hell of a lot has changed. You don't see anybody using an abacus or a slide rule anymore either.

But when people used those instruments, they understood math.

I trust the states more than a woke Federal bureaucracy. Some of the states will get it right, and that will inform the others. The DOE is a $##*@! disaster.

Yes..basically..some states will demonstrate great success, some will demonstrate far less success. This will actually allow for things to improve nation wide.
What we’ve had since the late 70s is simply..an ever increasing all encompassing bureaucracy with only one goal…
..protect the ever increasing bureaucracy!

Many great teachers have left the profession because they spent all of their time completing paperwork to comply with Department of Education mandates. Getting rid of that bloated bureaucratic monstrosity will allow teachers to teach again.

One of the reasons my wife retired: her hands had gotten so arthritic it was very difficult to do the paperwork. Apparently, they have since computerized the task (which she had repeatedly asked for), but the federal forms that had to be filled were all paper forms in quadruplicate.
