Was this a dark horse? I don't remember his name being mentioned as a candidate.

It seems to have gone almost unnoticed that this Pope is of mixed race (the first such?) According to Wikipedia his mother had the surname of Martinez and was from New Orleans and of mixed white and African descent, while his father was of Haitian ancestry.

Can’t say I know a lot about our new Pope..but he is a registered Republican and strongly pro life.

Yes..I know people that are strong in either direction.

And, even amongst Catholic leaders, there are Cardinals that are not as strongly pro life as the general stance of the Catholic Church.
