I guess the migration has started. Most of my day was spent out in the pastures and
my conservative estimate is that I saw at least 150.
Y'all?

I spent some time Sunday out in the jungle, as my 6 year old grandson, Riley, calls the woods behind our house. We saw lots & lots of Monarchs. He insists some of them are "mothses" & some are butterflies.I asked him why he thought which were which & how he knew, he said "everyone knows that". He is fascinated with caterpillars, "mothses" & butterflys, but gets scared of them if they fly too close. He is such a trip. Cadie Bug thought they were pretty & that was that.

Here, too. I'm glad I'm not on I 35 and trying to dodge them. I hope they all make it safely by Friday since we're going to Wimberly for our granddaughter's wedding.

I've seen a few; probably 6-8. Not many but pretty nonetheless.

I have had a few each of the last few days but they seem quite a bit smaller than in the past. Maybe its the younger one who migrate first, dont know. When I see the Monarchs heading south each year reminds me of Dallas when I was a kid,1940's & 50's, we had Monarchs each year but it was in the hundreds at the peak times. Much much more than these days. We also had horned toads, frogs and grass snakes in all the yards. Three critters all boys loved to play with back then.

glenn, I wonder if you are seeing Queen butterflies. Their markings are similar to Monarchs and they are smaller.

I have not seen his video/photos, but a friend who lives about 2 miles from me said he had HUNDREDS in the trees in his creek on Saturday. He said it was a highlight of his life, that's how many he had.

I'll see if he can share the video.

Their flight pattern had moved a little from Dallas, but I wonder if the drought has brought them back to us.

We did have to drive south on I 30 to Wimberly for our granddaughter's wedding last Saturday. I didn't notice any monarchs but I was half asleep. Didn't see any on our return trip yesterday.
