I've saw Lewis several times at the old Panther Hall.
He put on the best shows I've ever saw. He would have played all night if they would have let him.

He did one of those collaboration albums a few years ago. Even with the ability to sweeten his voice in the studio, he didn't sound very good (to me).

I haven't heard him in years.
I was seeing him back in the 1960s and early 70s.
He was doing country then but he would also break into his other stuff.

Mickey Gilly and Jimmy Swaggart are also related to him. I think they are cousins.

I have an uncle that looks like he and Mickey could be brothers.

I share a G-G-G Grand Father with that trio, he was their G-G Grand Father.

My brother's Jerry Lee Lewis story:

When I was in the 9th grade I was showing my Jersey cow at the Fat Stock Show in Houston.

The T-Diamond ranch was supplying the bulls for the rodeo. Frank _ was the foreman at the ranch and he was at the fat stock show to take care of the bulls. One night he asked me and Joey to help him feed the bulls after the show and he would buy us a hamburger. The rodeo was over about 10:30 and after we fed the bulls and got them bedded down it was close to 1 am. We left the coliseum and went looking for someplace to eat.

There isn't much open at 1 in the morning in downtown Houston so we walking around. We ran across a beer joint that was still open and they served hamburgers. There were a whole bunch of cowboys from the rodeo in the joint. We went in and Frank bought us some hamburgers and cokes. There was no place to sit down so we were standing eating our burgers.

All of a sudden the Piano started up real loud. We were trying to see the player but it was crowded. They cowboys pulled us through and we were standing at the end of the piano watching Jerry Lee Lewis. He was ripping out some tunes and I had no idea who I was watching, but I did like the music.

After a few minutes two cops came into the joint and were looking around, I guess they were just checking to make sure there was no problems. Anyway when the cops came in the cowboys grabbed us by the shoulders and slid us to the back in the corner. No one could see us for the crowd. After a few minutes the cops left and the cowboys moved us back to the end of the piano.

Later I learned that Jerry Lee was in town to do a show, and had just dropped into the bar for a few beers after "work". The show he did at the beer joint was just him having fun.

The next week, there was a blonde senior girl in my world history class that was bragging about going to see Jerry Lee Lewis' show. When I told her I had stood at the end of his piano, she told me no one was on the stage by his piano. I explained it was in the beer joint and I saw him for free, she was bummed out.
