Ever been stung by a scorpian?

Postby grouchy » Sun Nov 09, 2014 9:51 am

I was sitting out in my shop working on a wood carving earlier this morning. As usual I was barefooted and wearing shorts. I felt a mild burning sensation on my thigh and looked down to see a scorpion sitting on my leg.
After squashing him I went in and asked Karen what we should put on it. As any country lady would do she made a paste out of baking soda meat tenderizer and water. It seems to have worked.
I have always been leery of scorpions but now know it is no worse than a bee sting.
What about y'all?

Yep. I had one sting my finger when I was picking up firewood at a picnic.
It felt exactly like a bad burn. I didn't put anything on it- I didn't have anything.
It was swollen for awhile.

Must not have put a good effort into it, scorpion stings are worse than any bee,'except maybe a bumble bee.

There is one type of scorpion in the U. S. whose sting is genuinely dangerous but it is confined to the desert Southwest, probably not east of Arizona.

One got me on the hand a few years ago. Hurt--but really no worse than a bee/wasp sting.

I've gotten this far in life not ever being stung by scorpions, bees, wasps or hornets. Mom and I were walking around at the country cemetery where her parents are buried. All of a sudden she shouted at me "RUN!!!". I ran until she told me to stop. She had watched me unknowingly stir up some hornets on the ground and they were after me. That's the closest I've ever come...

Yellow jackets are the most painful and dangerous stinging insects in this part of the country.

Shortly after my brother moved here, he discovered quite painfully that his new yard was infested by asps. Sounded like the most painful thing that anyone I know has ever been through.

Yes. Don't like them at all. Have had scorpions drop from ceilings into bed several times over the years. Still check bedcovers and shoes at my M-I-L's house; killed one last time we were there...

I've been stung by yellow jackets, a scorpion and an asp. The yellow jacket and asp were far worse than the scorpion.

I've been stung by all of the above. Jelly fish sting and a crap bite hurts the worse.

A hornet sting is slightly worse that a tree asp in my opinion.

IDK, but if it is the worst, I'll pass on finding out how bad it is.

I've experienced jelly fish also, but it was so long ago, I really don't remember which sting was the worst.

About 5 years ago, a wasp stung my arm and my arm swelled up more than any bite had ever done before.

All of the creatures mentioned hurt when they sting, but none have left me in pain for hours or even days.

We always used a paste made of salt and water to stop the swelling.
