How Many People Voted? Not many

Postby planosteve » Mon Nov 10, 2014 7:31 am

Election turnout is often cited as an indicator of the strength of the mandate of winning candidates, but it can be a misleading statistic: Turnout is usually measured as a proportion of registered voters, rather than of those eligible to vote – and U.S. census numbers show that more than 70 million U.S. citizens of voting age are not currently registered voters.

Turnout in midterm elections measured by participation of registered voters has has fallen since 1840, according to the Pew Research Center. Voter turnout in 2010 rose slightly, but 2014 turnout is a return to the declining trend.

You can view participation of the voting eligible population, not just registered voters by state in this article. Nationally, it is 33.9%. Texas is 27.6%

Good, now if we just get Presidential election voting levels down as well..to a point like this election, where only informed people vote.

There is no reason to lament low voter turnout. Personally if no democrat ever voted again it would be a great thing for America.

Greg Abbott got more votes in 2014 than Rick Perry did in 2010.

The Republican victory will be meaningful only if they change their policies. But, with Boehner and Mitchell running the Congress, I don't see how that will happen. The next election is in just 2 years. So, it will be the the voters who are still pissed off about the economy that will be voting. Does anyone really think the economy is going to be an better in 2 years? Will the voters be prone to vote for the party that has done nothing to improve the economy headed by yet another Bush? I don't think so.

I'm one of those voters Perry lost that Abbott earned for this election, Sam will never get my vote again not that it mattered.

Not according to about 95% of what I'm reading. For instance:
The next round of the financial crisis is at our doorstep.

After all… we know that…

1) Stocks are expensive by just about every conceivable metric.

2) Global GDP growth is overstated dramatically with China at most growing 3.5% per year, the US in recession, and Europe in a full-scale DE-pression.

3) QE is completely useless at generating growth with Japan in a triple dip recession after launching a QE program equal to 25% of its GDP and the US in recession despite having spent over $3 trillion.

4) Central Bankers don’t care in the slightest about how their policies affect the rest of us.

5) Even investing legends who have made their billions off of stocks admit the market is a complete farce and that a Crash is coming.

6) Billionaires moving their money out of stocks and into ANYTHING else at a record pace.

And finally..

7) None of initial problems which lead to the 2008 crisis (excessive leverage, rampant fraud, etc.) have been addressed.

But you said the U.S. is in a recession and Europe is in a Depression..nothing about Japan.

Could you show me the latest data for the U.S. and Europe to confirm?

I didn't say the US or Europe was in a recession or depression. Japan has been trying to borrow and spend it's way out of recession for many years. And it's never worked. So now they have doubled down.

Sure. Sometimes I post things to stimulate discussion. Sometimes I post things I don't completely agree with. Such as Europe is in a depression. Europe is not a country. So, while some of It may be in depression, not all of it is. But, the jist of it is Europe is doing poorly. Forbes says Europe is "sinking into recession".
