The IRS is doing something that is really irritating me. We have been getting notices from the IRS charging late payment interest and penalties for clients who had balances due and filed at the last October 15th deadline. The returns are filed electronically and payment is sent on the last day by check. The notices show the date of payment as the date received which is usually 5 to 10 days after the payments was mailed. The IRS's own rules state that the date of postmark is considered the date of payment. Used to be that the IRS would automatically allow time for mailing and not charge late payment interest. Now I think they mail out these notices for minor amounts thinking the clients will just pay them since it is too much trouble to call or write them. And sometimes when we write them, the IRS denies our request even though their own rules clearly state they are wrong. This isn't the only notice problem we've had with them lately, and not sure why the IRS is continuing to pelt clients with ridiculous notices.
Anyone else had any problems with the IRS lately?
IRS extortion of my clients
Re: IRS extortion of my clients
Yes I have - the IRS is evil.
I transferred funds from one IRA account to another, and even attaching the proper forms with the return, the grifters billed me for income tax on the proceeds. My CPA straightened it out, at 100 bucks an hour or there abouts.
Now the bastards have their claws in Health Care insurance, be sure to personally thank the democrats you meet.

Did this happen recently Red Oak? It just seems to have gotten much worse in the past 2 to 3 years.
