Your worst insect sting experience

Postby Red Oak » Thu Nov 13, 2014 4:09 pm

Here is mine. A few years back I had a porch light out, and I clumb up on a step ladder and took the globe off of it to replace the bulb. Inside was a yellow jackets nest, one of them flew between my glasses lens and my eye and stung me in the corner of my eye.

That hurt. I am not particularly sensitive to stings, but my eye swelled shut and I had a hell of a headache.

I took a handful of Benadryl and laid in bed the rest of the morning with an Ice pack on my eye.

When I was 15 or so my aunt sent me to the neighbors for a half bushel of pears. First reach into the tree I bumped the nest, got hit in the face multiple times. By the time I got across the road one eye was shut. My aunt closed the store and took me to the drug store in Lake Dallas, when we got there the other eye was partially closed, I don't remember what they gave us, but then we drove home to Ft.Worth, I was not a pretty sight.

Then there was the asp's in Ft. Worth. Those suckers hurt.

It happened to my wife.
She was in the backyard and stirred up a swarm of killer bees.
She jumped into the pool with her clothes on to get away from them. They were waiting for her when she stuck her head back up out of the water.
She had to surface, take big gulps of air and go back under water until they decided to leave.
She wound up with only 10 or 15 stings.

riding my motorcycle a couple years ago , got hit with a bee or wasp right where my sunglasses sat on my nose , bee or wasp got inside the glasses and stung me very close to my eye on the eyelid , that hurt but wasn't real longlasting . Another time at about 10 years old , it was cool in the fall and I was standing on a beehive [box] while shooting a .22 revolver . Bees came to life , stung me quite a few times , didn't really bother me , didn't even tell my parents until I went to bed .

I got 3 brown-recluse spider bits on my back when I was in fifth grade. Spent hours and hours with mom applying hot compresses to them. Still have the scars.

I was stung by a scorpion on my 'member' and once got about 2 dozen Africanized bee stings, but the yellow jacket on the eye was the worst.

While on vacation at Yellowstone my wife stepped out of our van and was stung by something that hurt like heck and in 90 or so seconds caused her throat to start swelling impairing breathing. Medical services were close by and efficient.

I was stung a dozen or so times on my left hand / forearm by wasps moving a trash can. Hurt for a while no swelling I remember.

I have never been stung thankfully after reading these stories. But I am paranoid and freak out when I see a stinging insect. Maybe if I got stung just once, I'd get over it and realize it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Got stung by yellowjackets more times than I can remember. Stung in the back by four at once.
Worst sting, though, was by an asp on my palm. I was sick in bed with fever for a week.
