Mavs Stomp the Sixers. 123-70

The Mavericks ripped open a 45-10 lead in the game’s first 15 minutes and reduced the rest of the night to nothing more than a victory lap as they crushed the Sixers 123-70 at American Airlines Center.

It was the largest margin of victory in Mavericks history, surpassing a 50-point win (128-78) at New York in 2010.

“Anytime you get a win in this league, it’s always good,” J.J. Barea said. “It’s always good to get one of these. It’s fun. You’re winning, so it’s fun. It’s not fun for them, but on your side, you’re enjoying it.”

Having fallen behind 24-4 to Sacramento in the last game, the Mavericks were ahead by 28 after the first quarter Thursday against the Sixers, who fell to 0-8.

It was a rude welcome to Texas. The Sixers will visit Houston and San Antonio next.

The Mavericks (6-3) moved to 2-1 on the homestand that finishes Saturday against Minnesota.

Leave it to coach Rick Carlisle to put some perspective on the historic win.

“Truth is, this is a favorable part of of our schedule, and we have to take advantage of it,” he said. “Games are going to get harder and harder. We know that.”

While no night in the NBA is truly easy, they won’t get much simpler than this game. The Mavericks exploded out of the gate and never eased off the gas.

“[We] didn’t have any slippage, and we got the job done,” Carlisle said. “This is an important homestand. We blew the first game, we got lucky in the second one. We played well [Thursday] against a team that’s depleted. We got to work now at finishing it off Saturday against Minnesota.”

At halftime against the Sixers, the Mavericks were up 73-29. It was the biggest halftime margin in franchise history.
