My Iron Sight days are coming to an end

This afternoon I went to a public shooting range to zero an old Krag carbine I picked up a few years back but had never fired.

Between the mist and my aging eyes I struggled to see the bulls eye target, so I used a human silhouette target Instead, and then even that target started getting fuzzy :(

I'll be 70 in a few months.
My eyesight was getting so bad I thought I was going blind.
The eye doctor said cataracts. I had cataract surgery last march and have 20/20 in both eyes. It's one of the best things I've ever done.
BTW- Everybody gets them to some degree as they age.

It just sucks less than the alternative.

Not that many years ago with good sights and rifle I could shoot under 2 inches from a rest or prone, good bye to that !

I need to go in for an eye exam, maybe a new prescription will help.

Have you tried iron sights with fiber optic inserts? They worked wonders for me. I prefer an aperture rear (as I always did with iron sights) with a fiber optic front, but open rear sights with fiber optic rods are just about as good. When I first saw them I looked to see how you changed the battery, I couldn't believe they showed up so well.

I could focus fine on the front sight, I just couldn't see the target very well at all.

I thought that my eyes were going to heck , eye exam doctor said that I'm still good [real doctor] . Recent drivers license , still no glasses !! Funny but I had glasses as a 13 year old but never wore them and never got any more after those glasses . Still have them laying around somewhere !!
