Put the kids in school in Baton Rouge, LA

the 8yr old is a little behind.... but is rolling with the punches and getting caught up.
the 13yr old was VERY behind in his studies.... was missing some concepts and was reading at a lower level.
we aren't worried about him developmentally, as he learns fast. but the extra work is enormous..... as he is doing 4hrs of work per night to avvoid failing.

who knew that the shithole louisiana would be THAT FAR ahead of Texas.

eta: oh, we are moving.

Yikes, my oldest is always behind and would probably be in big trouble there too. She would freak over that much homework.

yes, was in plano schools.

it has been difficult c-mommy

our schools were supposed to be good. glad we werent in disd

i blame it on the lack of parenting of some of their classmates... lots of latch key kids in the 13yr olds (old) school. i am sure they take a lot of the teacher's time and attention.

Not what I blame it on in Irving....at least not most of it. When your parents don't speak English very well, I'm not seeing how you get any help at all. The homework is enough of a pain to figure out already.

good question.
i have my theories. and it isnt money per student.
it is what is happening at home with all of the 'latch key kids'

boss is going to let me stay on until i figure it out. that is, if the numbers dont suffer.
there are some restrictions/hurdles legally. like i can only do conventional, no govt loans

i have a lead on a job at a company that does loans there.... AND they do loans in Texas. i just have to upgrade the license to cover both states. not a hard test. likely wont even have to study... i have taken so many tests and continuing ed it is crazy. just hope the new place is cool

lateral move for her actually.... with an upside.
her dad passed and her mom cannot take care of the property alone.
maybe build next door so we can take care of the place... maybe liquidate the farm. dont know. but in the short term, i will be hunting deer off the back porch

thanks

Back in the 60's we moved from Spring Branch ISD (Houston) to Lafayette. I can't remember if we were behind but I best that I can remember, when we moved back to Texas in the early 70's, we were a little ahead.

Interesting.......

When the school in The Colony received Katrina kids they were probably 2 years behind our kids...and this was a family who was sending their children to a parochial school in NO because the public schools were so poor. The mother was shocked (an angry) that we put the siblings back 1 grade so that they could do the work. Both struggled. The mother brought them to the library each afternoon to have a quiet place to do their homework, so she was involved. Prior to Katrina the mother had a decent office job. The 5th grade girl could barely read and the 3rd grade boy was not much better for his grade level. We/the teachers worked hard to try to bring them up to our standards.

During the time, I went over to the Louisiana State Education site to see what was required. I think I compared reading and language arts. Our TEA had page after page of requirements and Louisiana had 1 page. Perhaps we had a more intense bureaucracy. :)

I was just teasing you about your name....but hope you can get your work lined out soon. For now, enjoy the time being the stay at home dad with your sons. It's a worthwhile job IMHO.
