NFL suspends Adrian Peterson

Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson learned Tuesday he will be suspended without pay for the rest of the 2014 NFL season, according to an NFL statement. Peterson intends to appeal.

Peterson will not be reinstated before April 15 because he violated the league's personal conduct policy "in an incident of abusive discipline that he inflicted on his four-year-old son last May," the league said.

Peterson has been on the exempt/commissioner's permission list -- which kept him off the field, with pay -- since September after allegations he disciplined his son too harshly with a "switch" or thin stick. Initially charged with felony child abuse, Peterson pleaded no contest to misdemeanor reckless assault this month.

"The timing of your potential reinstatement will be based on the results of the counseling and treatment program set forth in this decision," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a letter to Peterson. "Under this two-step approach, the precise length of the suspension will depend on your actions. We are prepared to put in place a program that can help you to succeed, but no program can succeed without your genuine and continuing engagement."

In case you don't know..a lot less than "causing welts" is considered child abuse these days.

Not saying I agree with this concept, but it is the PC world we live in.

I'm all for corporal punishment, but I don't think it's necessary or proper to use a switch on a 4-yr-old. A spanking should be more than sufficient.

I can nearly bet his kids ain't walk in around in pants with their a$$ showing and m*****f***** ain't the first and last words out of his mouth. Goodell can be tickled pink with all the tattoos, stupid dances, long hair, drug suspensions, and as grand dad would say "making an a$$ of himself" that speaks more of attitude that I'm priveledged and to heck with being a role model to kids even if you don't like it, you are.
If more parents knew of a switch, a lot fewer teachers in our schools wouldn't be worried about stepping into a classroom wondering which little jerk was waiting behind the door with a knife or worse.

This is what Peterson "allegedly" did to a 4 year old; "hit his 4 year old son last May with a tree branch, multiple times, causing cuts and bruises on the back, legs, shoulders, buttocks and scrotum."

For all of you Cro-Mangon knuckledraggers out there, that is child abuse.

He has fathered at least 5 children, possibly 7, with multiple women, including one who is an ex-stripper. He is an absent baby daddy, whose biggest contributions to those kids life is his child support payment.

league went too far. he has been punished.

this has more to do with goodell's job than AD and a little kid
