Saw this a couple of weeks ago. It seemed so unbelievable that I did a hoax search. Apparently it's true. We keep all batteries in a cardboard box and keep them in their original packaging for convenience sake. Turns out we were also reducing fire hazards in the house. Who knew......till now.

I'm not even sure we use 9 volt batteries anymore. Used to need them for the garage door remotes but we have new ones now. I'll have to ask my resident expert.

I still keep them for the backup on the two alarm clock radios... And the smoke alarms..
