Which is worse? Why the different coverage?
Which is worse? Why the different coverage?
Islamic terrorists kill in excess of 2,000 people in a single attack in Nigeria. Very little news coverage.
Islamic terrorists kill a couple of dozen anti-religious cartoonists in France and the western world goes nuts.
I find the Nigerian attack much more disturbing. What about you?

Re: Which is worse? Why the different coverage?
I'm interested in both , more interested in the attack on France because France is part of the western world and I'm part of the western world . Too bad in both cases though !!

IMO, it is as Ralph mentioned....one is a well known part of the western world and Nigeria has not been on the "world stage" (if it is now) for the length of time that France has.
Additionally, comparing the two, France is more like the US, so a person's mind goes to "It could be here."

For the same reason Princess Diana's death brought more coverage than Ngamuke Mbawalawuroka's demise.

Re: Which is worse? Why the different coverage?
The Nigerian attack would have gotten more coverage if they had reported it accurately, "2,000 Nigerians and three clowns".

Kind of shows the shallowness of western religious concerns and compassion.

I need to be honest and acknowledge that my thoughts may be influenced by the fact that I do not have any respect for France, Frenchmen, French culture, etc.

The US govt. has never been much interested in Africa. There have been genocides killing hundreds of thousands that don't even get mentioned in the western press.

The government and the press are two entirely different entities. The government's concern (or lack of it) for African genocides should not drive the actions of the press.
If the press had reported the 2,000 Nigerian deaths along with the death of the three clowns, things would have been different.

I wouldn't want to live in France; but I Damn sure would prefer living in France with French Culture than in Nigeria with their various cultures.

Tell them I appreciate the thought but would prefer that they forward it on to someone like ralph or jello.
