Businesses in West Hollywood have 60 days to comply with a new law requiring all single-stall restrooms to be gender-neutral and not restrict usage to a single sex.
The Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday that the law takes effect on Thursday with the aim of accommodating transgender and gender non-conforming people.
“I hope we can encourage other cities to adopt this,” Abbe Land, a councilwoman who initiated the law, reportedly said at a meeting last month. “It’s really so easy when you think about it, and I’m glad that we’re one of the cities that is moving forward on that.”
The Los Angeles suburb, which has a sizable gay and transgender population, passed the ordinance in June. It doesn’t apply to multiple-stall restrooms.
“Gender-specific restrooms can be unwelcoming and potentially unsafe for many people whose gender identity falls outside of traditional gender norms,” said a city statement released this week.

Could someone explain that to me, please?

A sitter who wishes to be a pointer might be offended because she/he/whatever can't use a urinal without making a mess. Then the next person might slip & fall, triggering a lawsuit.

I keep saying that if they would just say "Innies" and "Outties", they could avoid all this. It's not about the "gender" it's about the plumbing facilities.

I can't count the times plumbing correct females have entered and/or exited the restroom for plumbing correct males while I've been waiting or inside. I recall 1 from the other category which frankly made me chuckle.
That law doesn't scare me, its for single stall restrooms. Nothing to see, move along.

They are probably doing it because of loooooooooong lines in the women's. I've been known to use the men's when I
desperately needed to go. But, typically the men's is just plain nasty so only appealing an an emergency.
Most of the single stall restrooms I see, especially in doctor's offices, are unisex. I have no problems with it.

Not just 1, Crock,
2. 2 big ugly EXPENSIVE ($10,000 per panel!!!........$50,000 per bathroom for goodness sakes!!!) glass bathrooms sitting right out in the courthouse square. About the stupidest expenditure I can think of for a little town of 15,000.........or heck any town. AND Sulphur Springs is actually proud of the eyesores........at least some folks are. Others, the smart ones, are complaining the money should have been spent on fixing potholes.
And no, I have not availed myself on one. And Crock, knows how much I appreciate a good bathroom.

You are thinking like a normal person. That's not what this is about. This is about pushing an "identity" agenda.

Of course people your age don't even concern themselves with little things like..trying to make it to the bathroom.

How long until the ambiguously gendered declare that unisex doesn't meet their needs and demand their own.
