I don't understand why people yell and cheer when a building is imploded. To me it's usually a rather sad occasion. Maybe they are cheering the good work by the demolition team? Regardless, I don't get it.

I expect the persons cheering are in charge of the demolition. That's because it's very exacting work to make a building come down just as planned. Sometimes, it doesn't happen because the plan was wrong or the work was botched. So, they are happy when it comes down perfectly.

So, you are using "So" incorrectly. It goes like this:

It's always used at the beginning of the paragraph/response, etc...

Who said they were "cheering"? Like a lot of other people, they were taking video of the towers, AFTER the first plane hit. They were speaking Hebrew, which a couple of people mistook for Arabic, so they called the authorities. They also reported that the Israelis were "acting strangely" (what is normal behavior when an iconic office building is hit by an airplane?), and one person said it looked they were "dancing".
