12v replacement batteries

Replacing some 12V 4.5 amp batteries in a kid scooter.

would 5.5 amp be too much on the replacements? do these little motors have that much tolerance?

No problem.
The motors will only draw the current (amps) they require. More available current means the scooter will be farther away when you have to roll it home.
