It turns out NBC's Brian Williams has been lying for years about being on board a helicopter that was forced down by enemy fire in Iraq. He says he questioned his own sanity when the truth was pointed out to him.

WASHINGTON — NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams admitted Wednesday he was not aboard a helicopter hit and forced down by RPG fire during the invasion of Iraq in 2003, a false claim that has been repeated by the network for years.

Williams repeated the claim Friday during NBC’s coverage of a public tribute at a New York Rangers hockey game for a retired soldier that had provided ground security for the grounded helicopters, a game to which Williams accompanied him. In an interview with Stars and Stripes, he said he had misremembered the events and was sorry.

The admission came after crew members on the 159th Aviation Regiment’s Chinook that was hit by two rockets and small arms fire told Stars and Stripes that the NBC anchor was nowhere near that aircraft or two other Chinooks flying in the formation that took fire. Williams arrived in the area about an hour later on another helicopter after the other three had made an emergency landing, the crew members said.

“I would not have chosen to make this mistake,” Williams said. “I don’t know what screwed up in my mind that caused me to conflate one aircraft with another.”

Rush and Dr. Laura are not media persons. They are not in the business of delivering news, they are not held to that standard. The are firstly and only entertainers.

Williams has lost a great deal of credibility with this. Expect an apology tour.

This is the first I have heard of either Rush or Dr. Laura falsely claiming to have come under fire in a combat zone, as both Hillary and Williams have done.

Rush lied about his drug addiction- on the air.
Dr. Laura lied about her immoral past - on the air.
In a few months it was forgotten about.
Could they have survived lying about being shot at? I think so.

Williams is supposed to be a newscaster, and is to convey the story in a true and unbiased fashion.

Rush is a commentator, he presents his opinion, not the news.

Dr. Laura is an advice columnist, offering her take on specific life questions.

good for 'williams' , the big dawg in the whitehouse taught him all he knows about lying .

Williams in not a reporter or an analyst. He just reads what he is given like all the news "anchors".

Brian Williams does news reports from the field.

NBC News spends a lot of money touting Brian Williams as a trustworthy anchorman.

Dr. Laura is a talker. From her own website:

Newspersons do not claim to be entertainers nor do they lay claim to preaching, teaching and nagging.

How did Limbaugh lie about his addiction to painkillers ? I am not saying he didn't, I just have never heard about it.

Dr. LaLa is a different cause; did she ever address posing for her naughty bits photographs ? That God it wasn't the other way around with Dr. Laura & Rush !

One of the requirements to be a DNC Media Journalist is the ability to fabricate a good story. So Williams Faux Pas are just a symptom of a larger problem.

the lying started with lefty 'dan rather' didn't it ?? Probably started earlier but I think that 'd rather' was caught in his lies .
