Another Williams Lie

Postby BillB » Fri Feb 13, 2015 9:37 am

They've caught him in another one- maybe more than one:

While speaking at a forum at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in 2008, an audience member asked Williams what his “wow” interview was or moment in his career.

“What was my wow … I’ve been so fortunate,” he said. “I was at the Brandenburg Gate the night the wall came down.”

What Williams was referring to was the demolition of the Berlin Wall in 1989, but there are now reports that he actually arrived the day after the wall came down.

Williams’ predecessor Tom Brokaw was the only American anchorman to report live from the scene on that historic day.

There are other reports about him claiming to have been imbedded with SEAL Team 6 in Baghdad. The SEALS say that's a lie.
There's another one about him claiming to have met and shook hands with the Pope when Williams was a college student- almost certainly a lie- still being investigated.

Heard Diane Rehm talking about Brian this AM and said he had stated that he was embedded with SEAL team 6 at one point....and the Navy says no reporters are ever with a SEAL team.

I think Brian will get a lot more time to spend with his family.

I heard part of that show. Interesting the woman who said she heard him tell 3 lies in the same sentence and wondered what was going with his fact checking.

I'm not an NPR fan, except for Car Talk and Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, but I frequently hear interesting conversations on her show. The one with Anne Tyler, a couple of days ago, was great. Wish I could have heard all of it. She's one of my favorite authors.

I think they are now doing it at least 3 times a year - maybe 4.

And yes, Houston's comment was great! :D
