The intelligence? of cats

If I ever had questions about the intelligence - or lack thereof - of cats they have been answered in spades this winter. Cats, at least ours, are incredibly stupid creatures.

We didn't want an indoor outdoor cat (have never had an indoor cat) but she made herself one when she was dumped on us. So yes, her food and a nice clean litter box are located inside the house for her convenience. She is a VERY demanding creature.

Our cat lost her dog door privileges, a couple of years ago, because she insisted on bring mice, rats, and birds in the house and turning them loose alive. The solution was to remove her electronic collar and let her out when she demands. She scratches on the door to come back in.

During these cold spells she has about driven us around the bend. She yowls and whines to go outside.........I mean will NOT shut up. We open the door and she either refuses to go out, because of the cold, or goes out them demands to come back in 5 minutes later, because it's cold outside. Repeat, repeat, repeat ad nauseum. She cannot seem to figure out that it is as cold out there now as it was 10 minutes ago. This has gone on for the entire winter. Wouldn't you think she would figure out that it's cold and that there is nothing the humans can do to make it different? She will even refuse to go out the back door but demand to go out the front 30 seconds later. Hello, it's just as cold regardless of the door.

Cats are very very stupid creatures. Their learning curve looks like this _____________________________________________.

We have 2 indoor siamese. The female wouldn't go out for anything. The male runs to the door everytime it opens and wants out. If he gets out after about 10 minutes he turns into a wild cat and will attack you. But, they are not stupid. When we get the cages out to take them to the vet, they head under the bed. The female has lymphomia and we have to take her for chemo every week. She seems to know what day and heads under the bed.

Smart would be her figuring out that it's still cold. Stupid is yowling and carrying on when she knows I am completely resistant to her whining. Bob on the other hand..................... : b

I can't tolerate a whining kid or cat.

I do have to admit she is smart enough to have learned to count. When we open the door we count 5....4....3....2....1. If she hasn't entered/exited by then the door closes.
Generally speaking I am not a cat fan. This cat and I have a real love/hate relationship.
Did I mention she is a big talker? Well, she is.
