A rooster, so I'm just letting him do it himself, hoping for and early crop of little roosters.

Welcome to the world of Brain Damaged Birds. Your Rooster is as crazy as my 2 Parrots. Advantage to you as my Birds live inside.

I always thought it was 1 1/2 times their height - like bulbs. Looks like that rooster needs a bigger pot.

Working to love my fellow person regardless : >

He's a character! Lucky he doesn't have to take a dirt bath in the dusty ole yard! You've spoiled him. An I know you've enjoyed every minute of his antics.

Poor rooster is desperate for a "dust bath."
Give him some area with loose dirt and let him get his fill of dirt fluffed between his feathers.
IIRC, it means he is trying to prevent mites from living in his feathers.
His plumage is beautiful.
