I don't think it's necessarily happening all the time. The problem is what type of media coverage attracts the most attention and greatest audience. Sadly it's the sordid that does the trick.

A couple of questions directed generally:

1) In light of the criticism recently of the Las Vegas AA member spreading the story about Harry Reid's brother beating him up and blinding him in one, for speaking publicly about what he learned in an AA meeting; do you think the same about this story ?

2) Do you think that we should stay out of people's business about what they do sex wise behind closed doors as long as all involved are of age of consent and consent to it in this case also ? If not why not ? I realize providing drugs and alcohol to minors is involved and this women seems to be guilty of that, which is a separate matter.

I'm sure the sponsor really struggled with this one. I know the rule is what is said in 12 step meetings stays in the meeting. I'm not so sure about what it said to a sponsor outside of a meeting. My sister, 25+ years in Al-Anon, would be better able to answer this one and I'll ask her because I'm curious too. I would imagine the fact that minors were involved was a big factor in speaking out. Also I just read that there is no legally enforcable expectation of privacy and that the courts have ruled on that issue already.

Yep, what consenting adults do behind closed doors is their business as far as I'm concerned as long as it doesn't effect anyone beyond those walls. Swing from the chandeliers in a Tarzan costume if you want. I don't care. But, yeah, this involved minors. On top of that their parents had a right to know. This woman is toast --- which is as it should be. Wonder how many of the parents will be suing her. Heck, I wonder if the parents could file criminal complaints to have her charged with more criminal acts or if the police have already got that covered.

As to the Sexcapades the participants were at or above the age of consent.

Meeting or no meeting..any responsible adult would need to report this.

Also unless I misread the complaint, the mother didn't supply the drugs or alcohol to the minors; but did allow them to consume it in her home.
