Why we are losing our liberty

Postby BillB » Sat Apr 18, 2015 9:20 am

I saw a post on here a few days ago that said in effect:
Democrats believe in big government and the nanny state.
Republicans believe in hard work and individualism with minimal government.

I wish that were true, but it isn't.
I agree with the assessment of Democrats, but totally disagree with the one on Republicans.

Here are a few thing we have received from Republican presidents:

OSHA
EPA
Affirmative Action
ADA
SSI
TARP
Patriot Act
Medicare D
Largest Farm Subsidies in history

Supreme Court Justices
Most liberal to ever sit on the Court
Earl Warren
William Brennan
David Souter
John Paul Stevens
Harry Blackmun

Republicans are just as bad as Democrats and we refuse to acknowledge it. That makes them the most dangerous.
We need true conservative government to keep our country.
We are looking in the wrong place.

I don't think there are enough people that agree with you..about any of that.

I'd say that's why we're losing freedoms.

and I think it started in the late 60s or very early 70s , thats when I first started hearing about the ' spotted owl' in California . I was working on the Rail Road o my first good job and we suddenly got hard hat and eye protection , ladder , boot rules and some enforcement . Started hearing about dastardly pollution , rivers going up in flames in Americas manufacturing states, a dead Lake Erie , poor gas mileage , traces of asbestos in the Great Lakes , Alar on apples , coal dust , yada , yada, yada , forever and ever . --- indoor air pollution if your house was too tight !! I think that OSHA and EPA was formed , nasty massive immigration started in 1965 that 'Dead Kennedy' got through Congress in 1965 I think . I think that both parties are in collusion and have thought so for awhile . I think and hope the TED CRUZ and some members of congress may be the exception Bill !! And restrictions probably started earlier but I was too young to remember except for helmet laws in about 1964 when I first started riding , couldn't believe that was legal in a FREE country . ---------- interesting as this Is a topic on Cavuto right now as they talk about EPA , coal , electricity and global warming !!

Bill, I think it is just this simple.

A true, hardcore, conservative Republican can't get elected. Scares too many people who depend on government to get through the day. So we get squishes who try to appeal to the center. This will not change until enough people wake up and realize that creeping socialism does more harm than good. Won't happen in my lifetime, if ever.

I don't see that ever happening BT , I think that the USA is in a downward spiral , only to get worse with another rino or Hilary to continue their work .

You left John Roberts off the Supreme Court Justice list....the man that affirmed Obamacare and wrote the majority opinion.

Barry Goldwater- lost in the biggest landslide in history.
That was 50 years ago, but the average voter then was much more conservative than now.

It didn't matter who the Republican nominee was in 1964. After the assassination of Kennedy, public sentiment was going to be with his successor.

And the biggest electoral landslide in history was the 1984 slaughter of liberal Walter Mondale by Ronald Reagan.

In fact, Reagan was considered radical right wing, and he won in a pair of landslides.

It depends on how you measure a landslide.
Johnson won the biggest share of the popular vote in 1964 with 61.1%
Reagan won the most lopsided Electoral College victory in 1984.
However you look at it, they were both landslides.

GOLDWATER , glad you chimed in Mark , that was a bit before I paid any attention at all to politics . I was going to say that it was the 'first time votes' of the baby boomers that were becoming more and more liberal [hippies] . I do remember Reagan , voted for him as I liked his style . I remember my Foreman Stanley telling me that Reagan was too conservative but I think that Stan was an 60 year old lib . I ended up voting as my parents voted , Reagan all the way !!

I don't think liberal hippies had much to do with that election. The hippie movement didn't bloom until a few years later.
Four years later Nixon was elected and reelected in a landslide four more years later..

I kind of hate to mention this but I was a Goldwater backer way back when. I only hate to mention it because then you'll know how old I am. But I did work on his campaign.

Goldwater wasn't a conservative. He was a libertarian. William F. Buckley was a conservative.

I don't agree that Goldwater was a libertarian.
He wanted to nuke North Vietnam.
He advocated waging war against the Soviet Union.
I can't think of a single issue that Goldwater and Buckley disagreed on other than abortion.
Goldwater was pro choice. This was before abortion became a political issue.

I do not believe Conservatism was defined clearly for the country at large, until Ronald Reagan gave his first inaugural address.

Since the late 1980s, I believe it's been best defined and delineated,,by Rush.
