It's been a bad month

Last month I drove a friend up to Mt. Home, AR for 3 day fly tying event. We got back a month ago today. Next day I started to come down with a cold, spent most of the nights coughing. My friend got it too. Then my wife got it. She moved into the spare bedroom so she could get to sleep with all my coughing. Can't count how many boxes of tissues we've been though. I bought 7 more yesterday. Also, yesterday my voice disappeared completely. I can barely even croke. To make it worse, I'm between doctors. I finally dumped my old one because he's sick all the time. I won't see the new one until the 27th. Just hope I can make it till then.

So sorry about the extended illness, Steve. I can really relate to the symptoms hanging on thing.

We've just gotten over colds. Seems Bob always picks up his cold virus at church..............which is another rant - why do people think they are so important that the church needs them to be there (or anywhere else including work) even when they are sick?????? Going anywhere, and exposing others, when you are sick is just plain selfish.

Anyhoo, I'm on day nine and still coughing and blowing my nose like crazy. Finished off 2 boxes of kleenix yesterday. We have discussed, many times, how we wish we had stock in Kimberly Clark.

Actually, I find that bitching about it can be theraputic. I'm already feeling a little better now. Haven't tried to talk yet.

When I get a cold I take 10,000 MG of vitamin C per day and in a couple of days the cold is on the way out. I take 1,000 MG per day anyway.

I have allergies and it's gone on since February. Pollen count goes up and even with Dymista, Advair and singulair, I wake up and have to start all over again. Sneezing 8-9 times until the medication works, isn't unusual. I'm sure Kleenex is making a lot of money right now. HOWEVER, I'm really thankful that I haven't progressed to sinusitis! Yea!

My sister says take it till you have diarrhea. She swears by vitamin C.

I'm going to try that starting today. But, the bottle I bought says to take 1 tablet a day which is 2000iu's. Are iu's the same as MG's?

Yesterday, I bought some Alka-Selzer "Severe Cold" formula. It's not "plop plop fizz fizz", it's soft gelcaps, one is day time and one is night. The night time one knocked me out. I woke up about every 2 hours for a coughing jag. It was like coughing up glue. I did sleep longer in the morning, but then it was like my head was full of rubber cement.

Vitamin C: 1 IU is 50 mcg L-ascorbic acid

So sorry about the continued yuck. Nearly 2 weeks later I'm still coughing - including those middle of the night coughing spells you talked about, blowing nose, and clearing throat.....................and it's really past getting old.

So, then 10,000 mg would be 200 iu's?

Thank goodness I haven't gotten any of that crud yet. My eyes are really bothering me, but that's about all. Last year, I was sick all through tax season. Not sure what the difference it. It certainly isn't more rest.

Golly, pharmacology was too many years ago..........and I didn't do all that well even back then. I know the Vit. C we have is 1000 mg. Bob took one every three hours till he got diarrhea then backed off. Seems to me my sister said something like 4,000 mg.

My vitamin is from Rose hips, not ascorbic acid. I've never had any diarrhea issues from taking large doses of it.

I think I'm finally about over this crap. I actually ate a meal last night that included meat. I'm still coughing up some yellow gunk, but I mostly slept through the night and feel good this morning. Yesterday, I went to the eye doctor and got some medicine to keep my eyelids from gluing together. It's working.
I'm convinced now I had the full blown influenza that they keep telling you to get the shot for that can be very dangerous to the "eldern". I agree. You can only cough so hard until you bust a gut. I may have to reconsider and take it this fall. But, if I had not gone on a 5 day trip to Arkansas, I probably would never have caught it. Hopefully, my wife will be over it soon.
