Every little Ranchette needs a name
Every little Ranchette needs a name
So I was trying to think up a name for the place out on the Salt Fork, and came up with "The Owlhoot" as a possibility; based upon hearing the owls hooting, and the Owl Hoot Trail being an old Western term for not being overly concerned with societal norms.
What do y'all think ?

How about "Owl's well that ends well."

Re: Every little Ranchette needs a name
I like it.
Had a friend who named their place Middle Age Spread.
Back when I bred and boarded my place was called Gingerbred Farms because my first breeding mare was Ginger and she was bred when I bought her. Used that name for over 20 years. At an early point I had to have Ginger put down because of EIA (Equine Infectious Anemia) we discussed changing the name to Ginger Doesn't Live Here Anymore or Ginger Dead Farms but decided against it.
Current place doesn't have a name because no one out here seems to name their places.

Seriously though..yes, I like your name.
I had an uncle that moved a lot because he was a TWA captain.
He named all his homes. The one in the Florida Keys wax called..Fin de Mundo..(the end of the world)
His home in Rangely Lakes, Maine was called..Kingdom Come.
Can't think of the name of the one in Boulder City, Nevada..
His farm in Vermont was called..The Funny Farm.
He called his final home in Cape Cod..Valhalla.

Hooooters Place East,/West/North/South, whichever is correct.
Re: Every little Ranchette needs a name
We actually have an unofficial name for this little house..."the Beach House with No Beach."

The late Dick Yaws had the"oleo ranch". It was the cheap spread.
Ours is Quitaquay, to some it's the end of the trail, to the Indians it was horse stuff. I guess that's what you found at the end of the trail.
May I suggest owls bend for the creek

Sgt. Dick Yaws. I haven't heard of him in years.
Re: Every little Ranchette needs a name
I met Dick Yaws once, heck of a nice man, enjoyed his work on WBAP, back when Texas was still Texas.
Cowman, my little spot is a little bit east of Guthrie, I thought about calling it the 666, but I might go to Hell for doing that !

I've been thinking "Owlhoot" was an old cowboy term for a bad guy. In my mind I can see Gabby Hayes mouth and beard moving as he says it.

Owlhoot doesn't roll of my tongue very well.
I'd go for something like Hootowl Holler.
The mail thing is to pick something you and your wife like. Don't pay any attention to what anyone else thinks.
