While we were gone and since we've been back I have had a number of customers call for phone help. I try my best to follow up to make sure that the phone help worked or do they need further service.
Of all the calls one called back to thank me for the help, to the rest I say this.
You know I really do try

Re: You know I really do try
Expecting thanks is an exercise in futility. The ones who don't thank you probably don't thank anyone. Enjoy the ones who do.
Working to love my fellow person regardless : >

It does help you to prioritize which customer you will help first.

Since I'm only doing "social" kinds of things, I usually get a thank you note. But nursing and social service is a completely different thing. People are demanding and so many times never thank you. I remember going to the ER on a Saturday. Because of the aneurism, (me having the worst back pain), they put me in a wheel chair and whisked me back. I was in CT scan before I could catch my breath. I had gold standard treatment. It ended up being L5 vertebrae. There was a paramedic trainee, an RN and an MD taking care of me. All were outstanding. So, I wrote a letter to the administrator and making sure they were on the next Saturday, I took each a thank you card and took a fruit tray. I had no idea the RN was on probation, and it scared her to death when she was called to the administrator's office, only to have the letter shown to her and telling her it would be put in her file. Both the MD and the trainee thanked me in person when I brought the cards and tray. Jami, the RN said "Gosh, we hardly ever get a thank you! It was a pleasure taking care of you." But I won't tell you about the second time in my life I went to the ER after a bad car accident. Totally different...they missed a broken neck. The paramedics that got me out of the car did a fabulous report. I think if I ever have to go again, I'll wait till it's not "regular" hours.
