In-law visit

Postby millergrovesue » Thu Apr 30, 2015 4:32 pm

Y'all might find this boring but it's something good to share. We had a lovely afternoon with 3 of my in laws today. I haven't seen any of these people in probably 10 years...........or more. They came down from Oklahoma to pick up a bike I gave to my SIL.

My BIL's (Bob's brother) wife dropped dead about 2 months ago and he tears up whenever he talks about her. I cannot begin to imagine the pain of losing a dear spouse........and don't want to experience it. (My best friend from nursing school lost her husband over the weekend. She posted a dear picture, taken a year or so ago, of the 2 of them hugging. The look on their faces was one pure bliss. Really brought her loss closer to comprehension.)

My SIL (Bob's sister) had been going deaf childhood and became completely deaf about 25 years ago. Needless to say it was pretty much impossible to talk to her and she was mostly left out of conversations. She got cochlear implants about 2 years ago. What a miracle!!!! I have never been able to talk to her. She can now carry on conversation and hear even when you aren't facing her. We talked about the joy of hearing sounds and having to learn to identify them all over again and the blessing/irritation of hearing things like the squeaking rocking chair. I asked how long it took for her to adjust to the implants. She said about 10 seconds. Again, what a miracle!!! Getting to visit with her was a delight. Her husband came with her. He's a sweet guy too.

All in all it was a lovely afternoon with family. And we're celebrating that.

My suggestion of the day - hug your spouse a little closer, tell him/her how much you love them and thank God you have the ability to do it.

Having just celebrated 50 years of marriage, I KNOW who my best friend is. I can't imagine life without him. My hope is that we go gently together.

What?!?!?!? No politics here??

Seriously, thanks for the positive news. It is NOT boring. Glad more people who lost their hearing can be helped now.
