..but this morning I heard this.

Yes, it was pretty bad, but in fairness to him, you can see him yank his earpiece out almost immediately. That means the sound he was hearing in it..(would have been the organ as well as his own voice)..must have been so bad..he'd rather risk flying by the seat of his pants..not able to properly hear himself or the instrument he was supposed to be staying on key with.

He complicated it though, by trying to be WAY too cute with the melody..and the dubious organ playing didn't help either.

Oh my goodness!! No way could I listen all the way through. Too painful. He did occasionally hit a note that was actually in the original song. Not as bad as Roseanne but certainly in the top 10 running for the worst National Anthem ever.

Jose Feliciano is the first National Anthem butcher job I remember. It was in a 1960s World series game. He paved the way for the Roseannes.

Rosanna sang it horrendously on purpose..thinking that would be funny.

This guy was actually trying to do his best under the circumstances.

I think "butcher job" is pretty harsh. Here it is:

I'm a big proponent of the "traditional" national anthem, but I mostly object to the "modulators", who use every other note to practice their scales. Feliciano is singing a different version of the song, and he doesn't drag it out for 2 1/2 minutes of torture like so many of them do.

One could argue that this isn't "the National Anthem", but it is a beautiful rendition of the poem in song, similar to what he did with "Light My Fire".

I don't have much to add to this review, except that most of the national anthem singers who try to "get all Whitney" wind up like the vocal equivalent of Stewart from Mad TV:
Stewart: "Look what I can do!" [makes awkward jump]
Grandpa: "What the h*ll is that?"
Mom: "It's a trick!"
