The town of Garland, Texas is preparing for an influx of hundreds of protesters, who are expected to gather later this afternoon to protest an Islamic event.

The protesters are objecting to an event held by the Chicago-based Islamic organization called Sound Vision. Around 500 people are expected to attend the event called Stand with the Prophet Against Terror and Hate, according to ABC News affiliate WFAA-TV in Dallas. The event is being held in a building rented from the Garland school district.

Pamela Geller is the epically insane writer who blogs at Atlas Shrugs (named after Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged) and at WND. She is well-known for her ridiculous vlogs, her hatred of anyone looking like a Muslim and her ability to post screeds occasionally so incoherent that it makes you wonder if she's got what might be politely termed a "problem".[1]

While she is clearly unhinged, she has managed to land interviews with John Bolton and Daniel Pipes, been cited in the National Review Online,[2] published by the Washington Times and has appeared on CNN, so apparently someone is taking her seriously.[3]

It's difficult to isolate Geller's madness, as her style of writing is like one long primordial scream. Her main focus — indeed, the only real common thread in her posting — is anti-Islam, including rants against the Park51 community centre. She does have a few other hobbyhorses, though:

Geller is a birther and believes that Obama is a secret Muslim, but apparently that wasn't crazy enough for her. So, in 2008 she advanced a theory that Obama's real father was Malcolm X. No, really.
