Here's what some 89 year old women do on a Sunday afternoon

This is a really bad picture but that's my Mom dancing with one of the other members of my home church, First Baptist Austin, at their block party yesterday. My Mom is pretty amazing.

Cute Sue....I've never seen a picture of your Mom all the time I've known you. You've actually met my mom!

Yep, many years ago. My Mom looks like a slender brunette 89 year old version of me...........'cept she's shorter. Hope I look as good, and slim, as she does when I'm 89.

And I am glad to see that your mom is out there living her life and having a great time. Wish I could get my mom to do that. About the only thing she does is hang out with my brother and his family, see friends once in a while and shop.

My Mom has a very active life in the church (she's been a deacon for more than 35 years and has taught Sunday School for probably 50 years) and has many friends and family who will take her to events like this. And she has a positive outlook on life. All that helps.

My home church is about as far from Southern Baptist as it can be. We've been dancing at church since the early 60s, have been integrated since the 40s, have had women deacons and preachers for as long as I can remember, have welcomed anyone and everyone (including no shortage of homeless folks) forever, and has made a clear statement welcoming all including LGBT, takes part in a feeding truck for the downtown Austin homeless, etc. etc. It's a church in the truest sense of the world.
