Tell us about your pets

Postby crocmommy » Mon May 18, 2015 11:53 am

Share with us about your pets. I copied mine from another thread as I thought this deserved its own place.

I have my 15 year old seal point Siamese, Blue. He's been the perfect, sweet, loving cat causing me no trouble, very laid back about the girls and stayed healthy. I've rewarded him by inflicting a six month old dog on him that continuously wants to play. Yet he just seems to tolerate Buddy until we call off the dog. Blue knows he will always be my favorite. It will be a very sad day when he's not with me anymore. Will share about the crazy dog later.

Cooper is our 10 year old golden retriever. He use to run a lot, destroyed our backyards grass and ground cover. Now he pays for it with arthritis. Typical happy disposition, he does have an amazing mahogany coat that sheds a lot. Hes scheduled for surgery Thursday to remove a tumor below his tail that appeared in Jan that was benign.
It's ok if you disagree with me.
I can't force you to be right.

Why is Douglas in trouble?

I've adopted a family of roaches, that were homeless.
I've appealed to ASPCA and PETA for funds to help in their upkeep. So far I have heard nothing.
The roach was here before the dinosaurs and will be here after we are gone. He is the noblest of all animals and deserves more respect than he gets.

      And no, they do not deserve any respect. They just take it. :D

I had a dog like yours, Red Oak. Peggy was a catahoula/border collie/terrier mix. We found her in our garage when she was about 8 weeks old, starving, and had clearly been beaten. She loved us with a passion but HATED strangers and heeled (snapped at) everyone who came into the house. We use to close her in the bedroom when guests came. She also was known to occasionally attack my other dogs. It got to the point that I had to keep my old Poodle in the bedroom when I didn't have my eye on Peggy. She made it to 15. Died of liver failure.

I have a friend in Austin who is the biggest Golden fan I've ever seen.

The first dog I trained and took to obedience shows was a Golden. She was far from a rocket scientist but was a very sweet girl.

These are my boys. Brown is Harry who will be 12 in August. Harry had congenital cataracts. Has had surgery on both eyes and has lost one despite the surgery. Now it looks like he's losing the other. He is also diabetic. He is my loving doggie, my shadow and my constant companion. He is sweet and tolerant of anything and everything even twice a day insulin shots an special diets. Even world class Poodle haters love Harry. He's a love machine. Harry greets all visitors with a toy in his mouth. If he doesn't have one handy he runs to find one and brings it to the visitor.

Phantom is Alex who just turned 8. Alex is a major character and a bit talker. He lets me know when he's out of food, out of water, and informs me of many other things that I don't fully understand. Alex invented his own game that I call the Bark Game. He barks the waits for you to chase him. Then he runs through the house and comes at you from the other direction and barks so start things rolling again. He also specializes in tunneling under the sheets then turning upside down and barking so you can play Where's Alex. Funny funny boy. He hates visitors. He doesn't bite but does bark. If visitors ignore him he will eventually approach them.

I love my dogs with an insane passion and will do just about anything for them that I can.

Have a 25 year Tennessee Walking Horse mare, Lady, whom I call Bug. I used to raise Walking Horses and have owned them since I was about 17. This one is the last one. She was dumped on us by a boarder. And have 2 donkeys April, and Sarah. They are mother and daughter and are both in their 20s. I love donkeys. They are smart, sweet, and have a great sense of humor. The donkeys and the horse are inseparable.

We also have a cat. Rescued. I asked the vet when cats stop shedding. She said "When they are dead."

Thanks, that was a terrible ordeal losing our last dog. Buddy has gotten loose, but he won't run unless we chase him. He really just wants to be wherever we are. Buddy is our young schnauzer mix that torments my old Siamese. He loves my youngest daughter like crazy. Just wish we could get him housetrained. When he does something dumb (which is often), we blame it on the fact that we rescued him from Oklahoma. He will go nuts chasing his own tail.

We had a 12 year old pair of Siamese, Sashi Sue and Sammi Thai. About 6 months ago Sashi was having problems. She was vomiting frequenly. The vet diagnoced her as having lymphoma cancer with about 5 months to live. We had her treated with chemo, but that just bought some time. She lost most of her body weight. Two weeks ago she could no longer stand up. We had her put to sleep. Sammi is doing fine and doesn't seem to miss her. He sleeps a lot since it is pretty quiet at our house, but heads under the bed when it thunders.

I got my first Dane my freshman year of college. He was a rescue dog. When I got out of the service we were living in apartments and had a Boston, and a Pit.
When we bought our first house we immediately got another Dane. In the ensuing 44 we have owned 5 more. Also a schnauzer, a pug and a cocker. I had
to put the best dog that we ever owned about 2 years ago. Cancer.

We not have another rescue Dane. A few years back when I was working in south Texas and only coming home once a month, Karen decided to get a yorkie that we name izzie. We kept one of her pups that is named Duchess.

Bottom line, I cannot imagine life without dogs. I love them all.

Callie is a 13 year-old part lab, and I've had her for 9 years. A neighbor moved off and left her in the back yard and I brought her home before the other neighbors called the pound. She has been a total sweetie the entire time I have had her. She also turned into a big-time couch potato in no time.

Last summer I moved out to the country and Callie had no interest in staying indoors, which I thought was strange. After about a month, I gave in and let her off the leash for the first time. Guess what? She acts like she has lived out here all 13 years and is a total country dog. And I agree with Grouchy. I couldn't imagine not having a doggie.

We're down to two cats, Tina a Tortie and her daughter or neice Jett, we don't know which because Tina and her sister came to us pregnant , had their litters 12 hours apart and got the babies mixed up.

Then there's Stewy the most famous rooster in Sanger. He also has enjoyed some internet fame.

Here is Sweetie.

He is 1 year old. He now weighs 12 lbs. He appeared in our yard last July. We have taken him in, but his feral soul is still there. He has been neutered but likes to roam the creek bank. Last night he didn't come home until after midnight. We worry that raccoons or the coyote will kill him.

Lately his favorite thing is to climb to a fork in the tree and stay. Yesterday he was sleeping there for 6+ hours.

His tail is outstanding. I have never seen another cat with a tail plume like his.
My husband spoils him endlessly.

We have 2 dogs and a cat. The cat is a Siamese and has decided the upstairs is HERS. She never even comes downstairs. She's very good about walking on you when you're asleep. She "talks" all the time. Airborne is a mixed breed. I'd just had an argument with my husband before I left home. Our Great Pyr was almost catatonic. I was dressed and on my way to church in Emory. Hubs said "Gentle Ben isn't going to be with us for long." I said "That's it! No more dogs. Your heart can only break so many times." He said "I live here, too, and I've always had a dog. I did the natural wife thing and said "Well fine! I don't even want to know it's name!" I slammed the door and went to church. On the way home, the car in front of me came to a screeching halt and both doors flew open. The couple ran to the side of the road, the man came back, jumped in the car and took off. The young lady was standing over something on the ground. I'd keyed 911, thinking it was a domestic dispute. I pulled over and got out of my car. She said "We thought someone threw trash out of their car but then I saw it move." It was a 5 week old puppy. Her boyfriend was trying to get the license #. He came back and said he couldn't get it. So, I was checking the puppy, pretty scrapped up and she landed on her head. The couple lived in the dorms at A & M and couldn't take the puppy. What could I do? Wait till the next day for animal control? If there's even an animal control out in the country.. So, I took her. I came into the house and hubs knew I was so mad. He was at his computer and didn't turn around. I said "What's the last thing in the world I wanted!" He said "You've brought home a dog." "But we're not keeping her. She needs to go to the emergency vet!" So off we go to the ER vet. She also had an intestinal infection along with her scraping injuries. I won't send a sick pup to a shelter. She was so tiny. We came home with medication and put her down. The pyr was still in the corner and the pup went over to him and curled up in his tail. He came to life! We had gotten him the best gift ever! He was mourning the passing of our basset hound who had died 3 weeks prior. He absolutely took over the puppy and taught her about the dog door, house broke her because she followed him every where. When he went, she went. I kept thinking "He's going to poop on her!" But that never happened. That was HIS puppy. We lost Gentle Ben 2 years later. We now have a rescue Great Pyr and he's not like Gentle Ben. Buster is just a happy go lucky dog. Every day this clown makes us laugh with his goofy ways. For our 50th I had an artist do a pastel drawing of Buster for my gift to him. We both love this dog like crazy. He's absolutely thrilled with this drawing since she just "nailed" his personality. Buster IS a pyr with all the pyr traits ,the dreaded pyr paw for instance, the caring for his flock by sleeping at our bedroom door so nothing can get us. The ONLY problem with Great Pyrs is their short lifespan. Airborne (the pup thrown out the window) loves Buster and that love is returned. Buster is now about 125-130 lbs. and huge. He will get between a stranger ond us until he's sure that stranger is OK. The neighbors love him because he does the same with them.

As Grouchy said, we are indeed blessed by our beloved animal buddies.

Ann, that's why I try not to wind up with large dogs. The short life span is just too heart breaking.

But we love what we love.

I have friends who keep getting rescue Goldens despite that fact that they are so prone to dying from cancer. They just love Goldens and would rather love 'em for however long they live than not have them at all.
