Kid That Died Kayaking In Arlington

Postby Dancer » Thu May 28, 2015 6:10 pm

I am not a Heartless Bastard or anything like that. But WHY did this 17 year old student with a lot of promise and smarts even go into the water? He had to be smarter than that.

There seems to be a number of folks choosing to be de-selected from the gene pool in this round of weather. Darwin.

we had floods , first thing we kids did was disappear to build rafts . We had ice on the river , we still crossed the river at breakup rather than walk 2 miles . I made it , others made it , some don't . Every time I'd go out during breakup or flood , my mom would say the usual warnings . Never listened but survived . Too bad about the 17 year old local kid .

I just heard, a few weeks ago, that critical parts of the brain involved in decision making are not fully developed until years later at age 25 or so. I think that probably accounts for stupid and sometimes deadly things young adults do. Very sad.

that's why they need to be on their parents insurance till 26 , live in the parents basements till 10 years after graduating from college . I HEAR the same thing about younger people brains and it might be proven because of who I see them voting for [mrobama] . In reality though I think that its BS , its fun to mess around in floods and like I said , some live through it , some don't Sue !!

and , whats the deal with all these so called extreme sports that are pursued , white water rafting , barehanded , no safety rope mountain climbing , jumping off heights with jet suits , riding skateboards , bicycles , bungee cord jumps . Just a thought but could kids like this 17 year old be influenced by these so called extreme sports that seem to be so admired .

lock them up if you want to preserve them I guess . Think that's being done quite a bit nowadays , helicopter parents . I'd hate to be a kid nowadays .

yeah but lots of parent do the helicopter nowadays , kids don't get outside , always on a computer , watching tv or on playdates that mommy arranges . independence and exploration is not always encouraged like when I was a kid .
