PSA for Grandparents...

I know many members are anti-AARP....I don't like them either but had to become a member last year to get an excellent price on a very expensive insurance policy. And I can't believe I'm even old enough to be a member...but anyway. I get their magazine. I saw a little paragraph last week that said AARP members can save $5 when spending $25 if I show my card.
Well, I'm buying baby shower gifts and soon will be buying grandma stuff. Today..because the car seat I bought was $50 off, a couple of other items were 1/2 price and I had a 20% off one item coupon, I saved about $100 over what I thought I was going to spend. I looked at my receipt after I left and the cashier applied the $5 off EVERY item that cost over $25 on my receipt.
Since I have to be a member anyway...I'm going to use whatever advantage it brings. Just thought y'all might want that info!

Gah! Sorry! Only for BAbies R Us....I meant to put that in the beginning post. I must have Grammy brain already....
And I'd edit but I've already lost the button.....
Gosh, Babies R Us and Buy Buy Baby stores are such a beating for me! SOOOOO much stuff...so much color and sounds and wayyyyy too many choices to make. I will never take my grandson there...looks (and sounds) like a meltdown waiting to happen. Totally overwhelming. I'd rather go to Walmart.
And truthfully....just between you and me friends? Parents don't need a lot of that stuff.
I saw a box...priced $4.99....containing maybe 30 pieces of water dissoluble little things that look like packing peanuts.....TINY LITTLE BOX!.....to put in the potty to teach a little boy to aim.
I used Cheerios for that purpose 30 years ago.

What's the nursery theme?
At the last shower I went to, the baby boy's room had a citrus-y jungle theme, predominantly monkeys. It was really easy to find in stores.
Sometimes a really silly gadget makes life easier for new parents. We particularly liked the little cage you put in the dishwasher to wash and sterilize small plastic items like pacifiers. I still use it occasionally.
We also loved a silly little heating pad you wrap around the baby wipe container to warm the wipes. When you have to change a diaper on a cold night, a cold wipe to the bum can wake the baby more that you want the baby waked!

My DIL's father was a proud Navy man...served on the USS Wisconsin. She lost him in 2007 to a drunk driver and misses him very much. She is honoring him with a Nautical theme in the nursery...she has blown up black & white photos of his ship framed on either side of the window in the room...and has anchors and boat motif for the decor & bedding. I found a small wall hanging that my own grandmother quilted many years ago that has a ship with sails....that is on the wall....and my dad gave my son a beautiful wooden 1/2 ship model mounted on wood that is hanging on another wall. My mother's cousin is a quilter and made an adorable quilt with sailboats on it. My best friend knitted them a beautiful soft blanket with navy, red, cream colors. The walls are painted a soft grey/blue. The bedding is mostly blue & white...touches of red here and there. The window has white plantation shutters. The furniture is a dark wood. It is beautiful! Maybe I'll post a pic or two soon...

I'm sure someone will figure out how to import one; until then, I'm safe...
