In my opinion, by not overcoming the horrors and wasting the remainder of his life in prison by killing the bad guy, he let the rapist win. I'm glad I won't be part of his jury. Looks like first degree murder.

I think I read in there somewhere he'll get 5 years..which probably means half that long.

Wouldn't surprise me at all to find out he believes it was well worth it.
