Also keep in mind that the FICA bite is based upon a percentage of earnings, and real wages have fallen for decades and part time employment has increased.

Also keep in mind that for every 4 people drawing SS for themselves, or as a dependent; there is one person on disability.

Well, you could argue that until you have drawn out more than you put in, you were supporting yourself. But, there's no way to know when that is. My father paid in all his life and when he died at 65, had only received 3 monthly checks.

When My ex son- in-law died in a car wreck a few months ago, my granddaughter Cadie now gets $1,500 a month from his SS. I think it's more than double what he was paying in child support. Not sure how long she'll get it, a long time I bet as she's only 8 1/2 years old. Needless to say, we socking most of that away for the future.
