Had the greatest influence on your life ?

For me, I believe it was "The Territorial Imperative".

I could never make it through Atlas Shrugged.... I thought Animal Farm was great however.

And 1984 of course.

I spent about a month wading through Atlas. It's a painful read, but the ideas were an awakening for me.

The Brothers Karamozov -Dostoyevsky (religious themes, but not a 'religious' book.

or Six Easy Pieces -Feynman (glorious science, wonderfully religious)

A favorite Ardrey quote: "Let's just not argue. You can call me stupid, all right. I can call you a coward, all right. It's just I believe one thing, you believe something else. I think the world's got an outside chance, you believe it hasn't. That's all."

(Shirthead, I believe one thing, you believe something else. That's all. OK, big guy?)

I liked Animal Farm , been meaning to read Camp of the Saints . 'Camp' is supposed to be very interesting as it is said to describe what is happening in Europe , England with the over running of both places by third worlders yet it was written years ago . Growing up I mostly read Science fiction , fantay like Lovecraft , war , American history and motorcycle and gun books and magazines .

Camp of the Saints , read at least the first review as it describes what is now happening because of Libyans and other third worlders flooding Italy and then infiltrating into Europe and England . Book was written in the early 70s . --- http://www.amazon.com/The-Camp-Saints-J ... 1881780074 ---

20 odd years ago I ordered a copy through Walden Books (I think), the nelly behind the counter nearly vapour locked when he looked it up; but to his credit he did order it for me. An old SF friend of mine recommended it to me.

I don't accept exception of the Bible. That and my parent's teachings have had the greatest influence on my life. Other than that it would be Laura Ingalls Wilder books and Charlotte's Web. I can't think of other books that have had major influence on my life...................Maybe The Humor of Jesus.
Working to love my fellow person regardless : >

Hermann Hesse's Der Steppenwolf was also a quite an influence, along with Tate's The Good Soldier.

also used to read 'Boys Life' in the school library which was excellent , taught me to always carry matches and a knife , taught woods lore , animals , hunting , fishing , American history and just common sense . Also read lots of books in the Public library on Archeology , ancient civilizations like Egypt , the Aztecs , Inca and others . LITTLE HOUSE girls books , read them a few times , parents bought them for my sisters but I read them . They were excellent books , taught me a bit about life in early America . And I realized that my time in about 1958 was not that far removed from those earlier times . My Grand Daughter has the books now !!
