Why The American Revolution Was A Bad Deal

Lots of people celebrate July 4. I do not.

The Declaration of Independence justified armed secession. It was signed by a handful of lawyers on July 4, 1776. Secession was a way of transferring a great deal of power to colonial legislatures, where most of these lawyers were members. It was a way of replacing governors appointed by the King with governors elected by men of the colonies.

Then the law of unintended consequences once again made itself felt: higher taxes, hyperinflation, price controls, default on state debts, and (in 1788) a new centralized government that dwarfed the power of the British Empire's distant sovereignty in 1776. Finally, a new firm of democracy arose, a democracy of nine Supreme Court justices. The sovereignty of "we the people" -- the most rhetorically powerful and most misleading phrase in American history -- morphed into the sovereignty of five justices.

Surprise, surprise -- but not to the Anti-Federalists of 1787, and surely not to the loyalists of 1776, who had their property stolen by the new governments after 1783. A hundred thousand of them were in Canada in 1788, living under a far less centralized government.

just off the top of my head , USA worked pretty good throughout at least my parents and my life so far . Course , I don't like what I have seen coming now and in the future of the USA .

The Rev War was about money. The American lawyers in the perfumed wigs wanted what was going to England and more. One of their first actions was to tax whisky and to attack poor farmers in Pennsylvania who couldn't afford to pay up. It was called the Whiskey Rebellion.

that's exactly what I used to tell an English message board that I used to visit Steve . I told them that the Colonists wanted what the English king and his ilk controlled / owned . Course , history and the Revolution shows the Colonists wanted it more and were able to get it by killing and then sending the british / English packing back over the ocean back to the shores of 'blighty' . The goals and results of the American Revolution still sounds good to me !! WHISKEY REBELLION , I agree with the rebellion against the tax but still as a whole Americans have had it made in the USA until maybe the early 2000s . In the last few years and especially since 2008 or NOW is when the noose is tightening imo !!

Great Depession , didn't affect me , parents and family lived through it . Parents and family of that time went on to build a very nice society / America for themselves and their kids . War of Northern Agression , other than knowing the side that I support , well that's a long time ago and most people nowadays at least accept the results .

Don't care about any authors words or arguments as America has been a good deal for me , family and most other Americans that live by common sense . And , yeah , I see problems but those were usually small but do seem to be getting bigger nowadays .
