2006 Toyota---249,000 miles WHATS YOURS

Postby glenn/dallas » Thu Jul 30, 2015 11:35 am

I heard on ABC news that the average car on todays roads is over eleven years old. Started me thinking about my own history of cars. I have never owned a used car. Excuse me, Pre-Owned. Years ago I never kept a car longer than three or four years. Today I drive a nine year old Toyota with a lot of miles on it. Runs fine and since I have retired I rarely drive over 500 in a month. I hope to keep it for a long time.

What are you driving as your main family car ? How long did you and do you normally keep a car before trading , or selling it.

Our 2012 VW Passat (diesel) has 99,600 miles. Don't know how much longer we will keep it. Three more years of long road trips ahead. Right now, it is still dependable; when it ceases to be, we will probably trade it for another one.

Other car is a 2004 Grand Marquis; 140,000 miles. Strictly an in town car.

Kids drive 4WD Saturn Vues; son has a 2008 with 65,000; daughter has a 2009 with 104,000 miles.

have an old 1989 Nissan long bed , v6 auto pickup , straight body , nice cheap chrome wheels , new big rubber , new upholstery , patina paint and I describe the truck as nice / clean . Excellently maintained with about 145,000 miles on it . Bought it new for about 8,830 dollars at end of summer in 89 . Have a 'Honda' FIT car , 2011 with about 65,000 miles . Have a 2008 Triumph T100 Bonneville Motorcycle that I ride every once in a while around town and on old back roads and short jaunts .

My 16 year old GMC has 170,000 and still runs great. Bought a Ford Focus in November but, what with working from home, it only has a little over 3,000 miles on it.

I drive a 2006 Chevy HHR with 145000 miles on it. So far only one minor repair. It needs one more minor repair when I can afford it.

Hubby drives a 2009 Nissan Cube. I don't think he's even got 60,000 and Nissan has already had to replace the transmission....for free. Go figure.

I just got my Mothers 2007 Toyota Avalon with 37,000 miles on it! And that's after I drove it back from San Diego.

132,000 miles on a 2003 2 door Explorer sport I bought new. 3rd one I've owned since it first came out in 1991. So, it's the only car I've driven in 24 years. :D My wife has a 4 door Explorer with 128,000 miles.
I don't think the end is near anymore. :D I think it's HERE! :o

Golly, that's nearly 28,000 a year. Seems like a lot of miles. Did ya travel that much for pleasure or work, Glenn? And hooray for a car holding up that well.

My GMC was completely spiffed out when I bought it. I think that's why I'm still in love with it all these years later. 'Course it's missing things my Focus has like the lady who talks to me, built in GPS, back up camera, bunch of extra airbags, hands free phone, etc. But it's still a great truck that can haul a roll of hay with no problem. Focus can't do that. :P But the Focus is up to 31mpg and still climbing. Truck gets 14-16mpg.

We bought the Passat after dropping son off in Indiana; we took him up in a custom Ford van that got 12 mpg. Great road trip vehicle; but not at $4 a gallon gas.

First trip north in the Passat we got 48 mpg; much better on the pocketbook....

We currently have three vehicles. None of them were bought new...

Our "nice" vehicle is a 2007 Silverado Classic crew cab half ton truck. It had 48,000 miles when we bought it in 2010. It now has 106,000 miles. No issues.

My wife's daily driver is a 2006 HHR. It was an Enterprise car. We bought it in 2007 and it had about 15,000 miles. It now has 190,000 miles. No issues. We finally had to replace the original battery on it last year. I've put one set of front brake pads on it.

Our hauler is a 1996 Chevy crew cab dually with a vortec 454. It had about 90,000 miles when we bought it in 2000. It now has 157,000 miles and is still running strong.

My company vehicle is a 2012 Ram C/V mini van. It has 134,000 miles. I've put all of them on it. No issues. I've been informed by the company that it will be retired within the next 60 days. It will be replaced by a Ram Pro Master City.

2014 1/2 Toyota Camry, almost 4000 miles
2013 Camry, about 12,000 miles
1998 Toyota Sienna, nearly 150,000 miles

The new Camrys replaced two '99 models. One had 175,000 miles on it when we traded it in; we gave the other to our daughter and son-in-law. I think it has about 150,000 on it now.

I bought a RAV4 last August and it went in for it's free 15,000 mile oil change on Tuesday. However, I drove a 2005 Sienna and the wheels never did fall off. It had just regular maint. according to the owner's manual. Had the timing belt changed at 70,000. I traded it in at 135,000 miles and had tears in my eyes. It had one repair and that was due to our horrible road. I had 3 people that wanted to buy it. One man saw it while parked at CVS. He waited for whoever owned that car because he had two little ones in car seats and it was killing his back getting them in and out of his Camry. Mine had sliding second seat doors and captain's seats for the second row. I thought I was ready to get a new one. But when I went to the dealer's I just couldn't decide what I wanted. I didn't need that big a car since the grands were starting to get their own cars. I didn't like the smaller SUV design and did like the Venza but it would have been 3 months to get an all wheel drive. I NEED all wheel drive for the beach. The Sienna was a mountain goat! I never got stuck in sand or snow and we live on a hill. I'm a Toyota type gal. My husband drives a big Tundra and loves it. I won't and haven't driven it. It's something about the torque. Unless you're very careful, the damn thing will throw your neck back. He got his last August, too.

I was in the courier business and normal daily mileage was 200+, 95% which was in-city.

2006 Honda CR-V, 245,000 miles. Love it.

Before that I had a 1995 Honda Civic and I gave it to charity at 300,000. The only reason I got rid of it was because it wouldn't pass the emissions testing when idle. It was still getting 38 mpg and was a great little car.
