I drove up to Arlington yesterday for a visit. He is dying.
It was just the two of us and sat out on his patio. I decided on the way up that I would let him lead the conversation. We mostly talked about memories of when we were kids. Lots of laughter of times out here on the farm. We laughed...no we chuckled a lot.
As I was getting ready to leave I asked if there was anything he needed. He paused he a good bit and finally said yes. I want you to pick me up the afternoon before dove season starts. I want to spend the night at the farm and I want us to be sitting out by the back tank as the sunrises. He also said that he wants my grandsons and a few of their friends to be with us. I responded with, you betcha. He shot back and said I want to make sure we take enough birds for a good meal.

I admire him.

Very poignant. And I'm sure you will see it's done. :)

Beautiful.

My brother and I had a one afternoon together like this. We both wanted more but
we loved what we got.

Not only was it a wonderful time; it took away much of the dreadfulness of
death. And, for him, it really is a case of 'he's in a better place.'
