Just saw that on the news. I think he would do a public statement in an hour or so.

I hear he's quite a religious Catholic. Perhaps his conscience got to him. Buncha crooks in Washington just became too much to bear.

I suppose he was no longer useful to the DNC......

only problem with his resignation is that he is resigning at the end of OCTOBER , should resign today and get the heck out .

Sounds like it's all about the ever expanding Conservatives as compared to "moderate" Republicans.

Boehner and McConnell can't stomach government shutdowns..or even talking about them.

Maybe he just got tired of struggling with Cruz for control of the House. Seriously, he has tried to lead the House according to his party's policies but has been thwarted at every turn by outside influences (mostly Republican extremists) and internal power struggles. I don't blame him one bit for throwing up his hands in frustration. What I worry about is which Republican wacko will wind up with his job. Of course, it is like herding cats to manage the House Republicans. The next one may have no more success than poor John.

Government shutdowns are a form of bullying. It is right off the kindergarten play ground. It isn't governance in any sense.

Responsible politicians of all stripes know this is a bad thing. That is why they oppose the shutdown....or even talking about them.

Maybe he'll decide to run for president? There's still time....

That might not be a good thing, it would energize the Democrat Base.

The last time it was pretty good drama. Locking people out of the national parks, making sure they couldn't see the presidents' carving by closing a road so the public couldn't see it. Seeing lawmakers meeting the planes of WW2 warriors and cutting bolts got a cheer from me. Our congressional rep is a WW2 veteran and he was out there with bolt cutters!
